![]() ![]() Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher. Our Family Services Providers assist families with health, education, nutrition, financial, or any service deemed necessary for the family to be successful. ![]() In addition, we provide comprehensive services for enrolled children and their families. Head Start is consistently shown to improve educational outcomes for students by increasing the probability that they graduate from high school, attend college and receive additional licenses or certifications. Our campuses follow the Frog Street Press curriculum, a program approved by the Texas Education Agency. The Harris County Department of Education serves more than 1,300 students annually through the Head Start program with free healthy meals and snacks, vision, hearing, nutrition and developmental screenings, and physical activity indoors and outdoors in a healthy environment. The Office of Head Start (OHS) and the Early Learning Division use The Head Start Monitoring System to measure the performance and accountability of programs with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, and other regulations.Head Start provides newborns to 5-year-olds a safe learning environment that supports growth in many areas including language, literacy, and social and emotional development. OPK programs align with the monitoring protocols developed by the Office of Head Start (OHS). Families may access services in parenting education, employment, housing, and mental health. ![]() Programs also value the role of parents as the child’s first and most important teacher. These services are designed to be culturally responsive and multigenerational, supporting the health and wellbeing of both the child and family. OPK wrap-around services respond to a wide range of children and family needs. As of December 2022, 8,745 Oregon Prenatal to Kindergarten (OPK) slots were available to Oregon children and their families. What Does Oregon Prenatal to Kindergarten Support?īy increasing access to high-quality early care and education at no cost, Oregon is addressing current opportunity gaps for Oregon families. Table 1 includes income limits for 100 percent of FPL as of January 2023. Children in foster care, children experiencing houselessness, and children from families receiving public assistance (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Supplemental Security Income, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) are eligible for OPK regardless of income. OPK is available to families with incomes at or below the Federal Poverty Level ( FPL). ![]() This program is available in all 36 counties across the state and delivered in a variety of settings including centers, homes, and schools. OPK is modeled after Early Head Start and Head Start, federal programs that promote school readiness of young children by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. This program provides free, high-quality early care and education to families who are living at or below 100 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Oregon Prenatal to Kindergarten (OPK) was established in 1987 and serves families from the period of prenatal to five years old. ![]()
